Just watched Idiocracy for the first time. Rebecca liked it more than I did. I expected it to be more clever and perceptive the way that everyone talks about it. I liked everything being sponsored by corporations and the hospital scene had some funny things about it, but most of the jokes were pretty stale with "money" being the punchline.
I can see how this is movie was popular around 2019/2020. I saw many people bring up this movie whenever someone with an opposing political viewpoint did something dumb. I remember seeing a couple articles that would be shared around with clickbaity headlines like "Weekly event 'X' PROVES that Idiocracy was ahead of it's time!"
This movie had some okay ideas but I felt like i was watching a poorly written MAD Magazine article come to life.
"It's like a SNL skit that went on for too long" - Rebecca
