Hello valued readers (you know who you are) ! Here is the latest batch of movies we have watched.
Ducking the Devil (1957)
Trey: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️the Tasmanian devil was only in a few Looney Tunes shorts. This is the only one where he appears with Daffy. Pretty good, not ground breaking or anything.
Rebecca: (did not watch)
Batman Returns
Trey: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2 this one looks better than the first, but just barely. Once again, Gotham, the scenes, and the costumes all look great, but Batman is second fiddle in his own movie. The Penguin was a better villain than the joker- better motivation and a cooler arc. The worst part was catwoman. Horrendous one liners and paper thin origin story was unnesscarg. They could have taken out her story and it would have been better. Two orphan children taking monikers of winged creatures.
Rebecca: ⭐️⭐️ I think Tim Burton hates women.
I Think We’re Alone Now
Trey: 🎤🎤🎤Well made documentary about some truly strange people. I hope they get the help they need
Rebecca: did not watch
Rhapsody Rabbit
Trey: 🎹🎹🎹1/2 Not as good as the Tom and Jerry version
Rebecca: did not watch
The Cat Concerto
Trey: 🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹 This is the one where Tom plays the piano and Jerry is living with it. One of the greatest ever. Should be required viewing for every American citizen
Rebecca: did not watch
Tweetie Pie
Trey: ⭐️⭐️
Rebecca :did not watch
Long haired Hare
Trey: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Rebecca: did not watch
Rabbit of Seville
Trey:💈💈💈💈💈 This should be taught in school.
Rebecca: did not watch
What’s Opera Doc
Trey: 🐎🐎🐎🐎1/2 Classic for a reason, but the visuals are the best thing here. There’s not a lot else going on.
Rebecca: did not watch
The Music Man (1962)
Trey: ⭐️⭐️ It’s an okay concept of a story but the main character is not charming enough to be likable. Some songs are okay but not worth the runtime. Just listen to the most popular tracks on Spotify.
Rebecca: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️YA GOT TROUBLE WITH A CAPITAL T THAT RYHMES WITH P THAT STANDS FOR POOL. I told Trey that the main character reminded me of him and Trey HATED him so that made the viewing worse for Trey.
The Mandalorian and Grogu
Trey: ⭐️⭐️⭐️it was fine. Not deserving of the hate but not great. Cool effects, actions, and creatures but the lighting, color, and story were pretty terrible. It is very obvious that this is three or four episodes spliced together. If these were the last three episodes of a season, it would be pretty good. Star Wars is not better because this exists.
Rebecca: ⭐️⭐️1/2 felt like a direct to dvd sequel in quality. I liked it because I like the show, but there was no reason for this to be a theatrically released movie. Could have just been two episodes. Many shots of Grogu seemed like Disney asking the directors to make a gif for marketing.
The Little Mermaid (1989) (rewatch)
Trey:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ everything is phenomenal. The story is paper thin, but just enough to hold everything else together.
Rebecca: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️it has been quite a while since I last watched this. After expressing indifference to this film, Trey started crying at the first shot of water. It really holds up. The music is so good and timeless and Ursula is great!
Shut Up Little Man! An audio misadventure
Trey:🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️ the subject matter is very interesting and up my alley. Cool interviews from people you wouldn’t expect. Great production value. Recommend to anyone who has an offbeat sense of humor.
Rebecca: 👎I was in the room while he watched this and it was grating and terrible.
But I’m a Cheerleader
Trey:📣📣📣1/2 I am not the target audience, but I enjoyed the vibrant audience of the set design and costumes.
Rebecca: 📣📣📣📣great film!!! I thought from tumblr screen shots in the days of yore that this would be a more serious film and I was wrong! Did NOT like the instrumental music that made me think of the Rugrats.
Animal House
Trey: 🎓🎓🎓🎓This movie rules. Guys being dudes with a almost no story at all. Your favorite comedy was inspired by this one.
Rebecca: did not watch
Uncut Gems
Trey: 💎💎💎💎💎This movie is so stressful. Everyone is yelling at each other. You will never be prepared for what happens next.
Rebecca: did not watch
Future Shock! The story of 2000 AD
Trey: 👨⚖️👨⚖️👨⚖️👨⚖️Cool documentary about a big piece of comic book history. I am the law.
Rebecca: did not watch
First Blood
Trey: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 this movie is really, really, really good. I was not expecting it to be as deep as it is. It is not a macho “gun em down” He Man movie.
Rebecca: did not watch
Cannibal Holocaust
Trey: don’t watch it. Ask me about it in person because it is very complicated. Everyone should listen to the intro theme and then nothing else
Rebecca: did not watch
Toy Story (Rewatch)
Trey: 🦖🦖🦖🦖🦖Monumental.
Rebecca: 🦖🦖1/2 Trey really wanted to watch a film version of this and it was so grainy and scratchy sounding and we got in a fight over film vs digital. I do not particularly like this film. Everyone is too mean. I think my opinion of the whole franchise decreases every year. (We watched the digital version btw)
Jaws (4th of July annual watch)
Trey: 🏄🏄🏄🏄
Rebecca: 🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈so good. I notice something new every rewatch.
The Yankee Doodle Mouse
Trey: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️WOOOOO probably my favorite Tom and Jerry cartoon
Rebecca: did not watch
Saving Private Ryan
Trey: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Rebecca: I was unimpressed.
Toy Story 2
Trey: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Rebecca: 👍 The first movie does a great job building the toys world and this movie does an even better job expanding it. Everyone is nicer.
Education for Death
Trey: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Rebecca: ⭐️⭐️⭐️I saw this at a professional development and was told this was a great way to differentiate Hitler for students with reading/comprehension difficulties. And, it is!, but very funny to think about differentiating for dictators. Teaching is funny.
Look at Life
Trey: 🎥🎥🎥 this is George Lucas’s one minute student film. Not much to look at here but he uses pictures from magazines to evoke emotion. They mostly zoom in and out of each other but it is effective. This is real “we live in a society” type stuff but it’s a one minute student film from the 60’s, so of course it is.
Rebecca: did not watch
The Donn of Tiki
Trey: 🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿this is such a charming documentary. Even if you are not into tiki, you will still get something out of it. Amazing archival footage, and really stellar animation that changes to reflect what time period is being discussed.
Rebecca: 🧉🧉🧉🧉1/2 this was an awesome documentary. Lots of love for Tiki and Donn. Only caveat is that there isn’t a ~ton~ of explanation about what tiki itself is. I don’t think you would love this documentary without already having dipped your toes in the tiki world. I appreciate that the filmmakers tried to find some not old white guy representation in their interviews. Amazing Rankin-Bass style puppets and animated segments. Def watch if you like tiki or documentaries about eccentric men.
Beauty and the Beast
Trey: 🥀🥀🥀
Rebecca: 🥀🥀🥀🥀I really love this movie, but this viewing took some shine off. Compared to The Little Mermaid, some shots of this movie seem incomplete or messy even. But the music is stellar! The film walked so the musical adaptation could run.
Spider-Man: Homecoming
Trey: 🕷️🕷️🕷️ the high school scenes felt pretty authentic. I like that they took a different direction with the villains instead of a 1-1 like the comics. Good movie, way too much Iron Man technology.
Rebecca: 🕸️🕸️boring
Lost in Translation
Trey: 🍣🍣1/2 interesting movie to look at and listen to , but terrible to watch. These characters are so unrealistic. Hoped that they would have a father daughter relationship instead of whatever ended up happening here. Nobody is good in this movie.
Rebecca: 👎First heard about this movie through the lens of social justice tumblr, so went in with a negative view and I agree with all the commentary on that, but wow these people are also just professional losers. Get a life.
I hope you all have a safe and happy Halloween!!!!!!!!!!!! Our next batch of movie reviews will be our Zombie Spooktacular!!! Stay tuned!
