October Movie Marathon 2025
Quick, emoji reviews. All movies are our first time viewing, unless otherwise noted.
I (Rebecca, Coot) do not normally watch scary movies. Trey always wants us to watch scary movies this season, and I obliged a little! Here is a quick run down of what we have been watching.
Evil Dead II (1987)

Rebecca:π
Frankenstein (1931)
(we have watched this multiple times, but this showing was with a live score performed by the LPO!)Trey:π
Great movie. Seeing it with the orchestra was great since the original had no score. Mixing was off, but that was just this event.Rebecca: π
Frankenstein is so funny. It is my favorite Universal Monster film (so far). I liked watching it with the music, but it was a quite loud since they had to play over the dialogue and whatnot.
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931)
Trey: ππ
So good, great camera work for the time, great film, overlooked since itβs not a universal movie, first film to play Toccata and Fugue in D minor. The βclassic vampire themeβRebecca: (did not watch)
Halloween (1978)
Trey:π
Rebecca: ππ
this was my favorite scary film we watched this season!
A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
Trey: π«€ thought it was average
Rebecca:πβΊοΈ not what I expected at all
A Cabin in the Woods (2011)
(We have both seen this before!)Trey: βοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈ
Best way to watch is with someone who hasnβt seen it beforeRebecca: π
It was nice to catch details I missed the first time, but I think itβs more boring on rewatch.
Mighty Joe Young (1949)
Trey: ππ
Same team that made King Kong, details are way better, this movie is right beneath King Kong. King Kong invented special effects, Mighty Joe Young perfected it. I wonder what would happen if those movies reversed release datesRebecca: π
The original King Kong is a real detriment to the ears. This was much improved. Kinda boring though.
Forbidden Planet (1956)
Trey: π important for movie history, not that good on its own
Rebecca: βοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈ, but only for Anne Francis and Robby
Twilight (2008)
Trey: π
Iβm not the target audienceRebecca: π§πΊ
(rewatched the entire series) Twilight is so good. Iconic. The clothing is really interesting. The films lose a lot of charm after New Moon.
The Exorcist (1973)
Trey: π
Seeing pop culture references bait you into thinking itβs about the little girl, but itβs really about the boxing priest.
Rebecca:π«€
Slooow startβ¦.then scary! Not a fan of the pop up demon face!!! Or the medical procedures !! Or kids being hurt.
Childβs Play (1988)
Trey:π
A fine movie. Chucky has more personality than Freddy KruegerRebecca: π€¨
The Substance (2024)
Trey:ππ
Great movie, heavy handed.
Rebecca:π« π
Too goopy for me.
Itβs the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966)
(rewatch for both of us)Trey:ππ
Great, except for Snoopy flying ace segmentsRebecca:ππ
Six Days to Air: The Making of South Park (2011)
Trey:ππβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈ
I like documentaries, I like SouthparkRebecca: π
Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988)
Trey:π
Great movie, great costumes and effects, definitely give it a watch!Rebecca:πππ€‘
Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius (2001)
Trey:π
Writing and dialogue outperform the animation and the storyRebecca:ππ
Holds up well! The scene where the kids party all night and then miss their parents has been stuck in my head.
We rentend many of these movies from the library. It has been a great resource with streaming platforms cracking down on password sharing. It was also lovely to see some good, old fashioned DVD menus with all the cute little easter eggs.
