Upcoming Events Around NOLA
Lots of collectors events, music, and more!
There’s a ton of cool and interesting events happening around New Orleans!
I have listed them below in chronological order, and will be updating/sending out the list beginning and middle of each month.
I won’t be at all of these, but you should be! Check them out by clicking Links below each picture.
South Mississippi Toy Fest is back at an all-new location for another event on 2/7. This event has some really great vendors and wonderful people, despite the ai “art” used in the flyer. Check it out if you can make the drive up to Hattiesburg, and go ask them about why they used ai art here
Crescent City Comics has thousands of $1 comics, and a good selection of discounted collected editions for sale on 2.21! Sometimes there’s even a box of toys out on a table or two. I try to go to each one of these they put on and then stop for coffee across the street. They have a handful of these sales a year! Check it out before the good stuff is gone!
The CCC website is here
I still need to check one of these out, but the next Repair Cafe is on 2.25. I don’t know much information on this, but this cool graphic kinda lays it all out for ya! go scope it out and bring a broken lamp or somethin’!
Showcase Comic Con is returning on 3/14 after a long hiatus.
The Facebook event page says
”back at the Harbor Center in the newly created wing, enjoy a collection of the best vendors in the region, a few celebrity guests, and a day of comic con fun! More information to come, and this is the page to watch, so go ahead and mark your calendars now!”
I will update this newsletter with more information once it is made available.
I guess I’ll be the one to break the news, since I haven’t seen it publicly posted anywhere yet. This is just one of the many fabulous perks of being a subscriber to the Cassowary and Coot Substack.
Dead Media Market! The next one is on 3/21 at Chelsea’s Live in Baton Rouge.
This is a must-attend event for those who have a passion for physical media. Hundreds of VHS tapes, Vinyl records, video games, comic books, wax packs, toys, and more! Free admission! This event rotates locations, and is friendly to new vendors.
Check it the Facebook page for these events here
There’s an amazing video made by my friend at SaleOsaurus about the last Dead Media Market a few weeks ago. Be sure to watch this video to get an idea about this event before you get your stinkin paws on these damn dirty tapes!
Louisiana Tiki Fest is happening once again in Baton Rouge. It’s happening on 3/27-29. A fun weekend if you like tiki drinks. On Saturday 3/28 during the “Saturday Sip, Shop, & Seminars” I will once again be vending at this event. It’s usually a cool time, although this isn’t what you may be thinking when you hear “fest”. There’s a lot of seminars about rum and people hosting classes. I honestly don’t know what really goes on during these seminars, because I am vending at a table. Get more info at the Louisiana Tiki Fest website here!
Alright folks, this is the big one. Twice a year, the St Tammany Collectors Con puts together the best convention in the state. They cater to the vendors and collectors, and each year it gets bigger and better. So far, there is 1 special guest announced, I haven’t seen Stranger Things, but there seems to be a bunch of people excited about Randy Havens appearing. Cool! If you go to one collecting event a year, make it this one! Be sure to make it to Mandeville on 4/11-12
More info can be found here
Mardi Gras is on 2/17, here’s a cool Mardi Gras playlist I made a few years ago. Over 9 hours of cool tunes, and I keep adding to it as I hear more funky tunes.
As I did back in my college radio days, I have tried to showcase some of the forgotten hits and hidden gems from yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Check out the link to the playlist Here!
