Enjoy this list of events around the New Orleans area! School is back in session and the weather should (hopefully) be getting colder from here on out. Enjoy this list of events around New Orleans. Hope to see you out there!
First up is Scary Mall on 9/3 at The Crypt. I have never heard of this before, so maybe it’s a brand new thing. Seems fun! Looks like a bunch of new (to me) vendors. I love karaoke, so maybe I will belt out some tunes after snagging some cool stuff. Rebecca and I just watched Dawn of the Dead, so we are already in a Scary Mall mood.
The Suicide Machines are heading to NOLA on 9/5 and it’s gonna be a great time! Not sure why Joystick isn’t on this flyer, but they will be on the bill as well as Bad Operation. Find out more info here!
Batman Day is 9/19! What is Batman Day? It’s a day made up by Warner Brothers to get you to buy more stuff. Batman debuted on March 30, 1939, so I’m not sure why they want us to celebrate it in September. I don’t like when big corporations just make up days we are supposed to do stuff. At least make it correspond with an already existing date in history. “Star Wars Day” being May 4th is so whack. Star Wars as released on May 25, 1977. I get the pun for 5/4, but the real date in history is a few weeks away. So Corny. “Mario Day” being on March 10th is also pretty annoying. Mar10 looks like Mario i suppose, but it’s still whack. It’s a weak excuse to be pressured into buying crap to prove your loyalty to a company. It reminds me of this comic.
Let the fans celebrate the stuff we like organically. Otherwise, it’s just like a cheap whiskey; watered down and corny.
Anyway, BSI COMICS is having another Storage Forage day on 9/19! There’s going to be a few vendors upstairs and the store will have sales on a bunch of stuff. Usually discounted back issues, wall books, and trade paperbacks. I go to these whenever I can, and you should too. Check it out! BSI is a great store
GWAR is playing at Chelsea’s Live in BR on 9/23 with support from BRAT. I won’t be going to this because I ill be at the “Weird Al” show.
“Weird Al” is on tour once again and this time, he is in Baton Rouge on 9/23. Dang. Lots of BR events happening nowadays. I bought tickets for $30 a few months ago. Not sure how much they go for now, but you can find them wherever tickets are bought or stolen. “Weird Al” along with Daft Punk are probably the to artists I have listened to for the longest. The first CDs I ever bought with my own money were the Food Album and the TV album. He is still rocking, he is still rolling, and he is still weird.
“The Baton Rouge Film Society, in collaboration with the East Baton Rouge Parish Library, is bringing local filmmakers together for an evening of short films, conversation, and community. Whether you're behind the camera, in front of it, writing scripts, making films, or just passionate about movies, come out and meet the people helping build Baton Rouge's film community.” This is on 9/30

Bit Brigade is returning on 10/18 at their usual spot at Southport Hall! I am super excited about Castlevania! Get more info at the Southport Hall website
Alright folks, this is the big one. Twice a year, the St Tammany Collectors Con puts together the best convention in the state. They cater to the vendors and collectors, and each year it gets bigger and better. If you go to one collecting event a year, make it this one! Be sure to make it to Mandeville on 11/14-15

Summer is over, and as some of us switch gears, tune-in for this sweet retro skating rink mix I made a while back. If you have any suggestions, let me know. I am always looking for songs I may have missed. I am holding back on posting my Halloween playlist, because once that floodgate is opened, I won’t be able to put the toothpaste back in the tube.
